How Much Do Braces Cost?

When it comes to orthodontic treatment, one of the questions we get most often here at Timock Family Orthodontics is, “how much will braces cost?” That’s understandable! The answer can get complicated because there are quite a few variables to consider, such as:

  • The type of braces chosen
  • Whether the braces are for an adult or a child
  • The orthodontic issues being corrected
  • How long braces will be needed
  • If the patient has dental insurance that covers orthodontics
  • The orthodontist providing treatment
  • The area in which the patient lives and will be receiving treatment

Each of these factors will contribute to your final cost of treatment. For instance, if you choose traditional metal braces, they tend to be less expensive than clear braces or Invisalign. Likewise, orthodontic treatment for children will often cost less than treatment for adults, though every individual case will be different. If you need more complex treatment for severe problems, your treatment may take longer, which means more work for the orthodontist and more follow-up appointments. This will result in higher treatment fees.

It’s also worth mentioning that every orthodontist will have a pricing structure based on location, and some insurance policies will provide coverage for orthodontic treatment, but how much will depend on the individual patient and the treatment needed.

What does the total cost of treatment include?

At Timock Family Orthodontics, you don’t need to worry about hidden costs or unwelcome surprises! We’ll explain everything included in your treatment plan before even beginning your active treatment. Our individualized treatment plans contain everything needed for beautiful results that last, including:

  • all appointments, including emergency visits
  • braces or aligners
  • retainers
  • post-treatment follow-up visits
  • an oral hygiene starter pack

Our fees also include the skill of our expert team and the high-quality products we use. Our doctors have been using their exceptional experience to provide top-notch service. And a show-stopping smile, of course! We know braces are a significant investment. We’re proud to help patients achieve a confident smile they’ll enjoy for many years to come.

What is the average cost for braces?

While there’s no easy answer to this, the average cost of orthodontic treatment for children is between $2,000-7,000. The average cost of adult braces or aligners can be anywhere from $3,000-8,000. Again this is an estimate, and the exact cost will depend on your needs and the factors we’ve already mentioned.

Using dental insurance to cover orthodontic treatment

If you have dental insurance coverage, you may also have orthodontic treatment coverage. The policies and rules can be confusing. Our team has years of experience working with insurance companies, and we’ll help you receive the maximum coverage.

Every treatment plan is unique and based on your health needs and the professional judgment of Dr. Timock and Dr. Wire. We won’t recommend treatment based on whether or not certain treatment options are covered by insurance. Instead, our patients are presented with a plan that will best address their needs and goals.

Once you’ve had a consultation with Dr. Timock or Dr. Wire and received a diagnosis and treatment plan, check with your insurance company to see what they will or won’t cover.

As a courtesy to you, we’re happy to help with insurance claims and paperwork. Co-payments or out of pocket expenses will be estimated in advance of treatment. Once treatment is complete and all insurance payments are received, we will reconcile the account. You’ll be responsible for any underpayment at that point.

If insurance will not cover treatment, can the cost be deducted?

If your braces are medically necessary, you may be able to deduct the costs associated with them. However, the price has to exceed a certain amount before any deductions kick in. You’ll need to keep track of all expenses related to braces treatment if they wish to deduct the costs, including co-pays and check-up visits.

Will Medicaid cover the cost of braces?

Treatment costs may be covered by Medicaid if the patient’s braces are considered to be medically necessary. For those who want to learn more about this possibility, visit http://www.medicaid.gov/. It is essential to ask about the percentage of coverage and the lifetime maximum before proceeding with treatment.
